Council Hill to Galena: The Scenic Explorer Trip
Embark on our most popular extended adventure! Your journey begins at our downtown Galena store, where you’ll board our shuttle bus to our private upriver launch site. This trip is a longer extension of our Buckhill route and offers some of the best kayaking the Galena River has to offer.
When the water levels are up, the paddling is smooth and scenic. During lower water periods, you’ll get to use your navigation skills to steer around rocks and occasional sandbars. The dynamic flow, featuring faster-moving water and patches of shallows, also makes this route our absolute best option for Small Mouth Bass fishing!
A highlight of the Council Hill trip is navigating a narrow pass where the water speeds up and features a small, fun drop. It is easy to navigate and provides a refreshing little splash that feels fantastic on a hot summer day.
Note: Since this trip shares a shuttle route with our Buckhill paddlers, there is a short 15-minute extended ride and a brief stop to drop them off before continuing to Council Hill. The route is longer but not technically more difficult than Buckhill.
